Dance Committee

7th-8th graders welcome. Run by Student Body Co-Vice Presidents, organizes 7th/8th grade dances. Meetings announced through bulletin.

Eco-Action Team

5th - 8th graders welcome. Organizes school wide events to promote protecting the environment, eco-friendly transportation, and reducing waste. The group also participates in local bike rides and partnerships with local organizations, such as a book drive for Laurel Dell School students.

Graduation Committee

8th graders welcome. Run by Student Body President and parent volunteers. Student body President will assist and recruit 8th graders as needed.

Jazz Combo

Students interested in Kent's Jazz Combo must audition and there is only one person per instrument. The ensemble is open to any woodwind or brass instrument, guitar, bass, piano, and drums musicians.. A standard jazz combo consists of trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone and a rhythm section (guitar, bass, piano and drums), but clarinet, flute, oboe, baritone sax, horn, baritone, tuba, recorder - any lead instrument may audition. The audition consists of a prepared jazz piece, sight reading, and performance of a blues solo.

Students are taught jazz forms, such as swing, bebop, bossanova samba, etc. Emphases is placed on improvisation and small ensemble skills. This ensemble performs before each concert as well as during the volunteer luncheon and open house. The Jazz Combo also performs at local community events in Marin County.

Library Lunchtime Events

All students are welcome to visit the Kent Library during lunch to participate in activities ranging from puzzles, Crafts and Maker activities, card games, and book club discussions.

Margie Burke Speech Tournament

6th, 7th, and 8th graders welcome. This group meets once a week during lunch to prepare students for the county-wide speech tournament held at Ross School at the end of April. This group typically begins after President's Break. Click Here to see more information about this county-wide program.

The Marin County Spelling Bee

The Marin County Office of Education coordinates the Regional Spelling Bee for 7th and 8th graders. 2018-2019 Word List

Mathletes

6th, 7th, and 8th graders welcome. 6th grade participants practice and prepare for when they can participate in the competition in 7th and 8th grade. This is a zero period class. For each competition, ten students are selected to participate. Not all the same students participate at all of the competitions. Throughout the year, there are four competitions held at San Jose Middle School in Novato, where students compete with students from Marin County.
