Student health and nutrition are great factors in achieving success in school. Our school nurse, Laurel Yrun, R.N., provides our community with health-related services such as vision and hearing screenings, communicable disease information and prevention, and healthy nutrition education. Importantly, Laurel Yrun, R.N. supports learning through participating in Individual Education Plans and Section 504 Accommodation Plans.

Immunization Requirements
The California School Immunization Law requires that all children receive a series of immunizations before entering school. The law requires schools to enforce immunization requirements and to maintain immunization records of all children enrolled. Schools are required to submit reports to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on the immunization status of all students at the existing checkpoints of child care, kindergarten, and 7th grade.
Parents must obtain a record of immunizations from their child's doctor and submit it to one of the school offices before the student will be allowed to attend classes.

Medication Administration Information
If your child will need medication to be administered at school, the Kentfield School District requires the Authorization to Administer Medication form / Autorizacion para Administrar Medicamentos to be filled out and returned to us in order to give the school permission to administer the medication and to provide guidance regarding the dose and possible side effects of the medication.
If your child receives medication at home, you may want to provide the school with a 72 hour supply in the event of emergencies. Please provide the completed 72 Hour Disaster Medication form / 72 Horas Medicamentos en Caso de Desastre and any medication to the school office.

If lice are found on a child’s head at home:
Parents must alert the teacher and the office that their child has lice.
The Office will contact the student's teacher. The teacher will send an email notification or hard copy notification to parents about a possible head lice exposure in their classroom.
If head lice are found, families are instructed to check all immediate family members and notify any other contacts they have had in the last week.
The Office shares this information with the school nurse by email or a copy of the ‘Notice’.
The child may return to school as soon as (1) treatment is completed (i.e. the following day), and (2) the parents have signed and returned the completed treatment release form to the school office.

The student is sent home for treatment at the end of the school day.
Parents are given the “Head Lice Packet” with the information on the treatment of the student (and other family members, if infested). The packet includes information on treatment of the infested person, handling of the person’s personal items, the household, a treatment release form, and local resources available.
The child may return to school as soon as (1) treatment is completed (i.e. the following day), and (2) the parents have signed and returned the completed treatment release form to the school office.
