January 9, 2020
Dear Kent Families,
It’s been a productive first school week of 2020 at Kent, with staff and students launching back into our work together with conviction, curiosity, and a positive mindset.
This afternoon the school came together for our first Community Service Assembly of the year, designed to honor students who have completed their recommended service hours, and to encourage participation in our Together We Can collective action community service projects.
We began Together We Can for this school year back in December with unmatched participation from Kent students and community partners alike. Students brainstormed together about areas of need in our world and community, generating inspiring lists that show what our kids observe about our world and the role they can play to improve it. Some notable areas of focus include increasing care for homeless populations in Marin, reducing food insecurity, providing stability for immigrant populations in our county, and reducing negative human impact on the environment. Together We Can groups will be designing service projects to positively impact the area of focus that their grade level chose.
Together We Can meets by grade level during one Tuesday Opportunities session per month. That is a small commitment for a big impact! Last year, Together We Can at Kent raised more than $9,000 to benefit a number of organizations doing good work in our community.
Encourage your child to participate in our second Together We Can meeting next Tuesday, January 14th, during Opportunities.
Stay warm, stay dry, and stay compassionate, Falcons!
