The Details - Location, Arrival, Parking, Dress

When and where does graduation take place this year? Date, Time and Location?

  • Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on the Kent Field, facing the music room. You may have seen an earlier communication that indicated an incorrect end time of 8:00 p.m. The correct time for the event is 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Why is the graduation on Thursday instead of Friday, the last day of school?

Redwood High School is holding their graduation on Friday. To avoid any conflicts, we moved our graduation to Thursday.

What should my graduate wear?

Graduates are encouraged to wear formal or semi-formal attire, though keep in mind when planning footwear that graduates and attendees will need to walk on grass. There is no color requirement for any attire worn by graduates or attendees. All graduates must wear a mask.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Masks are required at the event for all attendees, including the graduates.

Will everyone be 6 feet apart?

Yes. Everyone will be 6 feet apart, with the exception of the family household members in your nest. Graduates will also be 6 feet apart, in their lineup, per guidance from the State of California.

Has anything changed now that Marin is in Yellow-Tier?

No. Everything remains the same regarding masks and social distancing.

Where should I park?

Parking will be available in the College of Marin parking lot, across the street from Kent in lots 6 and 7. Please do not park on campus. Onsite parking is for Kent staff only.

Why do I have a specific arrival and departure time?

We are coordinating staggered arrival and departure times due to covid restrictions. These arrival and departure times for your family will be shared in an email at a later date.

What if I can’t get to the event by my appointed arrival time?

If arrangements are needed beyond what is scheduled for you, please reach out to the Kent office to submit a request for adjustment. Depending on the circumstances, adjustments may or may not be able to be made.

Can we mingle after the ceremony and take pictures with family and friends?

No - unfortunately. We need everyone to exit the area quickly and according to a staggered departure schedule in order to remain compliant with guidance from the State of California and Marin Health and Human Services.

What if I can’t get to the event by my appointed arrival time?

If arrangements are needed beyond what is scheduled for you, please reach out to the Kent office to submit a request for adjustment. Depending on the circumstances, adjustments may or may not be able to be made.

What time should I plan to arrive?

Arrival times will be communicated when you receive your family nest location on the field, closer to the date of the event.

What time should the graduates arrive?

Graduates should plan to arrive by 5:15 pm at the same entrance gate for 8th graders at school currently, the gate in front of the locker rooms. 8th graders will assemble and get prepared in the Kent Gym.

Where should I drop off my graduate?

Please drop off your graduate at the College of Marin parking lot or other location that is NOT the Kent parking lot. Please do not enter the Kent parking lot to drop off your graduate.

Where should the graduates meet?

Graduates will enter the school at the gate near the gym - the same location that they enter the school every day.

Why can’t I find my seat when I drop off my graduate?

Per the state of California, we are required to implement organized, staggered arrival of guests to ensure appropriate social distancing. Your arrival time will be communicated to your family at a later date, but please plan for flexibility before the 6:00 PM ceremony start time.

Where do I enter the event?

Guests can enter through one of three gates:

1- front of school (by the office/library)

2- by the gym (to the left of the gym near the bike path)

3- through the back gate (by the sprint track - near the McAllister neighborhood, leading to Stadium Way)

Family Nests and Attendance

Who can attend the event?

Due to Covid restrictions, a maximum of 4 people who currently live together in a household may attend the event as a “family nest”. (This number does not include the graduate.) For other members of your household and extended family, the event can be viewed LIVE online. The event will also be recorded and available within 48 hours.

What is a “family nest”?

Each household group is considered a nest and will sit together in a square or circular space, which will include a maximum of 4 chairs. Extra family members are not allowed to sit on the grass within the nest. Families will RSVP the names of your household that will attend graduation.  Each nest will be 6 feet apart from other nests. Each nest will be numbered.  You will receive the number/placement of your nest on June 9, 2021.

What if the limit of four means that one or more people in my family won’t be able to attend?

We recognize the difficulty this may create for some families. The event will be live-streamed so additional family members can enjoy the event in real-time.

Can I bring out of town guests?

Out of state attendees, such as family members who have returned from college, must provide evidence of full vaccination status, must follow local guidelines with regard to travel requirements and must be able to be included in the 4 attendees per graduate in the household ‘nest’.  We prefer that all attendees refrain from travel 5 days prior to the event.

Why is there a limit to the number of guests?

There are limitations to how we can facilitate and run this event, due to recent guidance from the State of California and Marin Health and Human Services related to Covid-19.

In order to make this a safe event, we need to limit the number of people attending.

What if the graduate is part of two households?

In this case, two Nests will be assigned, with each nest containing 2 attendees. Families were asked to fill out a form regarding this.  If you did not let the school know, please contact Lisa Sandberg (lsandberg@kentfieldschools.org)

How are nest assignments created?

This is a multiple-part process. First, we will determine where each graduate is in the lineup, as they face the audience. Second, we will assign families to a quadrant on the field that is closest to their graduate. Lastly, we will randomly assign families to a nest location in that specific quadrant.

Can I pick where my nest sits?

No.  Nests will be numbered, and the Kent graduation committee will randomly assign nest numbers in partnership with the school. See question above. You will receive an email with your nest number on June 9, 2021.

Will there be chairs to sit on?

Each Family Nest will include 4 chairs.

When will I find out where my nest is located?

You will receive an email on June 9, 2021 that details:

  • Your nest location
  • Your nest arrival time
  • Your nest departure time

What if I cannot see or hear from where my nest is located?

You will be assigned to a nest that is in the same general area as your graduate. If you cannot see or hear your graduate in the line-up, please know that you will see your graduate when they pass through center-stage to “graduate.”  Please do not move out of your nest to attempt to see or hear better.

In the past, families have been able to purchase or win a seat in the front?  Are you doing this again this year?

Unfortunately we are unable to do this.

Registration /RSVP

Do I need to RSVP/How do I RSVP?

What if I don’t RSVP?
